An ancient palace for the former kings of Nepal, the courtyard is famous for its incredible woodwork and depicts true Nepali art. Temples decorated with stunning arts, charming houses built in Nepali architecture, and stone pavements represent ancient Nepali art. Palace of Kumari (Living Goddess), Hanuman Dhoka, and Mahendra museum are fantastic sites inside the courtyard.
  • Swaymbhunath Stupa (UNESCO)
According to local belief, the Stupa self-emerged when the water of Kathmandu flooded after a great warrior from Tibet, Manjushree, cut the hills of Chobar. The water drained, and then people began to settle in the area while the Stupa sprung on the hill of Kathmandu. Sacred to Buddhists and Hindus, the Stupa also has a museum and monastery, making it an important heritage site.
  • Pashupatinath Temple (UNESCO)
According to Hindu Myth, the temple was built where the actual horn of Lord Shiva, god of destruction, was buried. One of the holiest temples for Hindus, the temple is decorated with incredible woodwork and sculptures. Along the temple flows the Bagmati, a sacred river that guides the departed soul to the afterlife.
  • Boudhanath (UNESCO)
Known as Little Tibet, the Buddhist Stupa was built during the 5th century. During ancient times, travelers and traders worshiped in the Stupa for a safe journey while traveling to Tibet for commerce. Small cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, Buddhist chants, and burning Buddhist incense surround the Stupa.

  • Tibetan Refugee Camp
After China’s hostile takeover of Tibet, many Tibetans fled to neighboring countries. As a relocation program, the camp was settled. As those Tibetans can’t work legally in Nepal, they make many Tibetans products like carpets, handicrafts, jewelry, etc., and sell them in the camp.
  • World Peace Pagoda
The stupa is located at the top of the hill on the other side of Phewa lake. It was built following the principle of a Japanese monk.
